Vegan Guide to LA

Los Angeles is quickly turning into one of the vegan meccas of the U.S. Many restaurants now have vegan menu options and many fully vegan restaurants are popping up all around the city. I hadn’t been to LA since I went vegan a year ago, and when I decided to pay the city a visit this past month I was beyond excited to try all the places I had on my list!

You could write a novel about all the vegan options in LA, but here are a few of my favorites that I got to try (and a few I missed but have saved for next time!)

Backyard Bowls

Vegan Guide to LA

Smoothie bowls have been my morning ritual at home for about 2 years now, so I just have to try a few shops in town whenever I travel. I started off my first morning with an acai bowl at Backyard Bowls at their West Hollywood location. You’ll need a lot of fuel for your day exploring all the best vegan spots around town! There are 4 locations around town so it should be easy to find one that fits into your itinerary!

Fala Bar

Vegan Guide to LA

We vegans love us some Meditteranean food because it’s not only delicious but one of the easiest foods to make vegan. Fala Bar is a small whole in the wall but their food does not disappoint! It’s located on Melrose Ave which is a great area to go exploring. And best of all, this place is very affordable for what you get!

Lemonade

Vegan Guide to LA

Lemonade is a popular healthy fast food chain in LA that I fell in love with the first time I visited! It’s a buffet style restaurant so if you’re like me and love customizing your plate, you’ll have a great time here. Though not a vegan restaurant, it has plenty of vegan options and there are about 10 locations around town to choose from.

Blue Star Donuts

Vegan Guide to LA

Blue Star Donuts has become a pretty renowned name in the world of donuts and for good reason! I walked by their shop on Abbot Kinney in Venice praying that would have at least one vegan option for me. To my surprise, they had about 5 or 6 vegan cake donut options! I was always a huge fan of donuts before going vegan, and this place definitely has my stamp of approval.

And here are a couple restaurants I didn’t get to try but still deserve to make the list:

Gracias Madre

If you ask a friend in LA where to find a vegan restaurant, their first suggestion will most likely be Gracias Madre. This fully vegan Mexican restaurant is located in West Hollywood and not only is their shop aesthetically beautiful, their food is amazing, too! Since I’m a budget travel blogger I have to let you know it’s the priciest of the options listed, but still definitely worth crossing off the list!

Donut Friend

I know I’m putting two donut shops on the list, but a Vegan Guide to LA is not complete without mentioning Donut Friend. Though they don’t particularly advertise it, this shop is 100% vegan and is quite a household name in the vegan blogger community. It’s a bit out of the way which is why I wasn’t able to make it, but I definitely recommend trying it for yourself (and please let me know what you think!)

I hope that whether you’re a vegan, vegetarian, carnivore, or anything in between – this list will help you experience some awesome LA food spots while on a budget!

Have you tried any of these places or have your own suggestions to add to the list? Let me know in the comments or on social media!
