It’s been awhile since I did a hostel feature and since I’m in the midst of planning another Europe trip and booking my hostel stays, I figured why not do another? This week’s feature is on Loft Hostel Reykjavik, a modern yet cozy hostel located in the heart of Reykjavik, Iceland. Loft hosted me last summer when I made my first trip to Iceland, and I’m glad I did!
You wouldn’t expect Iceland to be at the forefront of design or architecture (or was that just my misjudgment?), but Reykjavik definitely is filled with some cool, creative spaces. Loft is joining the movement of more luxurious design-led hostels that has spread across Europe over the past few years, that offers travelers a trendy and lively place to stay that is still affordable.
Nothing sets the laid back mood like having the front desk double as a bar, and I knew upon checking in that I would definitely like this place.
The kitchen area is spacious and has lots of places to lounge, including one area that turns into a stage for live music a few nights a week.
One of my favorite parts about this hostel was the rooftop that overlooked one of the main streets in downtown Reykjavik, with tables to hang out and eat or have a drink.
Bar and Cafe
Overall, I would say that Loft Hostel was one of the better hostels I’ve stayed at! It definitely wasn’t a “party” hostel, but better for someone who prefers a quieter and more laid-back environment that’s centrally located with some entertainment options, as well. If you’re looking for a more lively atmosphere, Kex Hostel is another great option and has a bar that’s always packed during happy hour!
